These days it seems like once or twice a week I receive a request for me to become someone's "friend" and join a social network. I really do not see how this is advantageous to me. What do you all think about this proliferation?
I'm pretty much in the same situation. At first invitations appeared very suspicious as spams since I was not (and am still not) familiar with social networking sites (except for blogger or facebook). It doesn't make much sense to socialize in other ways than e-mailing with friends I'm already in touch, and I'm uncomfortable adding strangers. In terms of image/photo sharing, however, Flickr does allow a more efficient and capable alternative to e-mailing.
